Applications have now closed for 2022/23 Scholars Programme and Brilliant Tutoring Programme placements. We will continue to accept applications for Join the Dots and 2023/24, but successful candidates will not be invited to Assessment Centres until our new cycle begins in April.

We welcome applications at any time of year and have a rolling application process. However, we encourage candidates to apply by the deadline above to fit in with our next cycle of placing tutors in schools.

The Opportunity

We are excited to be recruiting for tutors to join our Researcher Development Programme, which offers Masters students, PhD and Early Career researchers a meaningful, paid professional development opportunity.

Tutors working with us will:

  • Support local pupils from less advantaged backgrounds
  • Get expert training and real experience to develop their teaching and other transferable skills
  • Join a nationwide community of researchers making a significant impact on university access
  • Develop competencies compatible with Vitae’s Researcher Development Framework


The Application Process

Applying to be a Brilliant Tutoring Programme tutor consists of three stages:

BTP application process

  1. Online Application: Applicants are assessed for their motivations and commitment to the Brilliant Tutoring Programme.
  2. Assessment Centre (Currently completed virtually). Successful applicants are invited to the assessment centre where you will be asked to prepare and teach a mini lesson and will be interviewed by The Brilliant Club staff.
  3. Pre-employment checks: Employment will be subject to DBS check, Right to Work check, Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) check, and suitable references.

The Brilliant Tutoring Programme welcomes prospective tutors who are committed to supporting pupils through instilling the confidence and engagement required for long-term progress. As part of this commitment, the Brilliant Tutoring Programme seeks tutors who can display appreciation and provide relevant experience in:

Please note that we do not expect applicants to have prior teaching experience. Our training programme is designed to instruct tutors on teaching practices and enable them to deliver high-quality and engaging tutorials.
