Response to Schools White Paper

24 Feb 2026

The Schools White Paper sets out an ambitious and much-needed plan to bring about change for less advantaged young people.

At The Brilliant Club, we welcome the government’s commitment to halve the disadvantage gap – which is currently the widest it’s been in a decade – and boost attainment for all young people.

For too long, how and where a young person grows up has inequitably influenced their life opportunities. The place-based approach set out in the Schools White Paper therefore presents a welcome opportunity to improve educational outcomes in the areas that need it most.

Through our work with young people, parents, and schools, we know how important beyond the curriculum enrichment activities and parental engagement are for a young person’s education, helping them to build vital critical thinking and oracy skills and break down barriers to accessing higher education. It is promising to see the government prioritise, and invest in, these areas and we look forward to upcoming opportunities to shape these measures through government consultation.
