The Brilliant Club today welcomes the publication of an interim report from the UPP Foundation’s Student Futures Commission. The report, Turbocharging the Future, examines where university resources should be directed in the next year to best support students.
The Student Futures Commission was set up to help the higher education sector navigate the next academic year, and into the future as it recovers from the disruption of the pandemic.
At The Brilliant Club, we believe that students should be well supported to make the transition from school to university. This is true for all young people, but particularly so for those from less advantaged or underrepresented backgrounds. Disadvantage does not disappear when students begin their course, so a good transition process is essential to establish the academic confidence needed for success at university. To explore what makes a good university transition we hosted a virtual roundtable in June 2021, bringing together practitioners with widening participation and student success backgrounds from secondary schools and higher education. Evidence from the discussion was submitted to the Commission’s call for evidence and can be read in the report.
