Why support The Brilliant Club
We are so grateful to our Trust and Foundation partners, who have enabled us to create opportunities for disadvantaged students that have had a significant impact on their ability to access university.
We know that university education changes lives, by promoting upward social mobility and improving the economic prospects of individuals and communities, with graduates from the most competitive universities more likely to access professional careers, have higher rates of life satisfaction and, on average, earn £10,000 more per year than their peers.
Right now, young people from less advantaged backgrounds and places are held back from taking this route.
We are creating a society where every child has a fair chance to unlock their brilliance, regardless of where or how they grew up, and where positions of influence are open to everyone, not just the most advantaged.
We do this by supporting young people to access and thrive at leading universities by working with schools, parents and the broader education sector.
We work with up to 20,000 state-school students each year, giving them the chance to experience university-style learning led by a PhD tutor, we engage parents in local communities to build their knowledge of how they can support their child to access university and drive change, and we share learnings with the wider education sector through evaluation consultancy and advocacy.
The Brilliant Club has proven impact to increase university access for less advantaged students, and is building its evidence base in student success.
As a supporter, you will receive robust impact reports as well as opportunities to visit our programmes.
Students who participate in The Scholars Programme achieve higher grades at GCSE than other students from their schools with similar prior attainment. Our evaluation found that 70% of students who completed The Scholars Programme in Year 10 achieved a 9-5 in maths and English, compared to 43% of their peers.
For nine consecutive years, independent evaluation with UCAS has shown that Scholars Programme graduates progress to competitive universities at a higher rate than other students from similar backgrounds.
Funding The Scholars Programme and Parent Power is in line with our aim to support educational initiatives which work to break the link between inequality and unfulfilled educational potential. We hope the projects together will have a long-term impact on individuals participating and on the wider Bedford Borough community.
