Over the course of the academic year 2018-19, The Brilliant Club worked in collaboration with the University of Glasgow Q-Step Centre. The partnership saw the design and delivery of Lying with Statistics versus Capturing the Truth, a course delivered to Key Stage 2 and P5/6 pupils enrolled on The Brilliant Club’s Scholars Programme.
The course introduced pupils to the world of statistics and surveys, exploring different ways to present data, analyse results and ensuring that surveys ask the right questions. During the Summer Term of 2018-19, the Lying with Statistics course was delivered by seven PhD tutors in 10 schools to 119 pupils.
The Brilliant Club is today releasing a case study about the outcomes of the collaboration – featuring quotes from pupils and their progress in academic achievement, university knowledge and university preparation.

In 2019/20, The Brilliant Club will work alongside the University of Edinburgh’s Q-Step Centre to deliver a course called The Secret to Living a Long and Happy Life.
Q-step is a strategic programme designed to promote a step-change in quantitative social science education and training. Seventeen Q-Step Centres based at universities across the UK have developed specialist undergraduate programmes, including outreach with schools. Q-Step is funded by the Nuffield Foundation and the ESRC.
